BEXHILL ON SEA BACK TO TOP

Originally this review was written for another website but unfortunately there was no category for it, probably the story of Eddie's life! Anyway, I thought maybe his fans would appreciate it. If not , then I'm sorry I've taken up so much chat space!

STAND-UP comedian Eddie Izzard has kicked off the first leg of his British tour in his hometown Bexhill-on-Sea, where he spent much of his youth.

He was in fine form when he took to the stage in a floor length pleated black skirt, which he had great difficulty tyring not to trip over, and red tartan jacket to perform his new enigmatically titled show - Circle. On anyone else this skirt would have looked like a schoolteachers's uniform but on him it somehow looked cool. As he so aptly observes in his comedy there is a fine line between "looking cool and looking like a dickhead". The make-up and streaked blond hair were back with a vengeance after shedding his somber attire and jet-black hair donned in his recent West End show, Lenny. The effervescent comedian looked completely at ease as he sauntered on stage half-an-hour late. But the audience gave him a rapturous round of applause despite his fashionably late arrival. "How can I follow that welcome," he quipped to the audience. The comedy began before he even took to the stage as Hollywood searchlights, which had been strategically placed outside the theatre, could be seen sweeping the skies above, from miles around. The sight of local pensioners inquisitvely peering over their seafront balconies, to see what the excitement was all about, was priceless.

Much of his show was taken from his Dress To Kill tour but he cleverly managed to weave in new material. He remarked on Bexhill's amusement arcade being the nerve centre of the town's entertainment and how a simple change of name of Street to Boulevard could give Bexhill a whole new identity. He asked the audience what was the highlight in Bexhill and someone blurted out Tesco to which he joked that in his day there was not even a Tesco! It was a rare opportunity to see a master of comedy at work as he used the monosyllabic comments from brave hecklers in the audience to conjure up what will probably become part of his new show. Any wannabe comedians brave enough to take him on were soon kicked into touch by his quick-witted retorts. Eddie has been quoted as saying he develops his new show by working with old material and add-libbing in new, which is the laziest way he knows how to work. But no one could accuse him of being lazy as he barely had time to change his hair colour before starting his stand-up tour. Far from looking jaded from his nine week run of Lenny he looked radiant as he floated around the stage in his hypnotic skirt, while joking with the audience.

It is comforting to know that despite his heady heights of fame and fortune he is humble enough to perform in the not-so-hip town of Bexhill-on Sea. But it could take weeks before the sleepy seaside town of Bexhill recovers from such excitement. Vickie Jones

I just want to let any one thinking of booking for the new show how very disappointed we all were with, what is advertised as a brand new show aka bexhill last sunday, but is nothing more than "dress to kill " rehashed. Not good enough really when much money was spent getting tickets and driving down from london, reading and brighton to see what we could have watched at home on video. We weren't the only ones complaining, someone had been to see you in NewYork and at wembley and this was her third time of the same show, and she was not amused. Given that eddie prides himself on improvisation we expected more, those moments when this happened were excellent , but were very few and far . We were great fans now just fans, so be warned. BIRMINGHAM BACK TO TOP

Well I just went to see the circle gig @ the Hippodrome. Although it was almost the same as D2K, Eddie was still fantabulous!!!! Myself and my best mate went to the stage door after the show and met Eddie, he signed loads of autographs and had pictures taken with everyone there. Just to let you all know, He's gorgeous close up!!!!!!!! Thanks for the memory Eddie! It'll never be forgoten. It was truly my best birthday ever. Jo

I went to see eddie in Birmingham on Thurs 21st oct,and although I was suprised to find out it was DTK I just think that being in the company of such a total genius who is soooooo sexy made me feel very lucky and I couldnt have cared less if he spent the night recieting war and peace, with eddie its not what he says, its how he says it.The only disappointment of the night for me is that my miserable sister wouldnt come to the stage door with me,and reading your comments about meeting him etc has now made me decide to stab her with my pencil!!!!! I LOVE YOU EDDIE IZZARD AND WILL COME AND SEE YOU TIME AND TIME AGAIN.(I LOVED YOUR SKIRT) If anyone doesnt want there tickets if its a venue I can get to I will take them of your hands.see ya tina

I know loads of people have slated the Circle tour recently, but I went to Birmingham to see Eddie and it IS D2K in a posh new frock. That's not to say it isn't hilarious anyway, but some of the material loses it's dynamic effect when everyone who's seen the D2K video is just waiting for the punchlines to come. Thank god the ad-libbing was brilliant otherwise I might have been able to recite the whole performance whilst it was being performed. Eddie, if for some reason you read this, this isn't a slating or a death threat for lack of new material. It's just that I travelled down from Scotland to see the show and if I'd known that it would be like D2K then I would have known what to expect - rather than expect a brand new show and be slightly disappointed. (although the stuff about Shakespeare was just dazzling). Great show but PLEASE warn us in advance. Adrian

Well well, a few points about saturday nights show

1) wonderful entrance and intro

2) nice skirt and use as a stunt prop!

BRISTOL BACK TO TOP

I went to see Circle at Bristol on the 27th of October, I don't care what anybody says....EDDIE WAS F***ING FANTABULOUS!!! I can't believe how disappointed some of the others were!! Can't they look up at that glowing stage and see that the only thing really glowing with splender is that multi-MULTI-talented T.V with a charm, intelligence and sense of humour that leaves us crying with joy and screaming for more after TWO HOURS??? ..*deep breath*...I think that they're forgetting how unbeatable and remarkable his "carefully crafted rubbish" (so he describes it) is, NOONE is ever going to be better at Stand Up Comedy than Eddie John Izzard. God Bless The Bloke In A Dress. Love and kisses, Ellen Rebecca. P.S Eddie...would you like a cup of coffee?:-) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I too saw Eddie in Bristol - front rows seats too!! I share the sentiments of you others in that although Eddie is the consummate performer and is (in my humble opinion) the funniest comedian this country - or even the world - has ever produced, and although I laughed my socks off (with apologies to those sitting close to me) I was disappointed that ÔCircleÕ was really D2K revisted. I know Eddie has been very busy, but I was constantly thinking "something new plaese Eddie", but very little came - so - I will be in Manchester in November - how about some new stuff by then - I have plenty of suggestions (like, how come squirrels are able to find all those nuts they have buried?? - simple - they make maps! and so forthÉ) I hope Eddie reads some of these rantings, and if he doesnÕt WHY NOT? YouÕre the best Eddie, Rob

Hello Eddie, I went to see your show in Bristol on the 26th and I had a brilliant time! I was mildly disappointed that it you said it was Dress To Kill stuff (and I have the video) but although most of the jokes were similar they were made quite different. However, quite surprising that it was advertised as a "new tour", and using the same material rather removes the illusion of spontaneity. I also noticed that you have become more political and less abstract than you used to be. Anyway, I still had a really great time and there was a lot of new jokes that were very funny too. I booked the tickets in April and was so excited to finally see one of your shows. The experience was made even better by actually meeting you (in a sort of could-you-sign-my-programme kind of way)! Thanks for a brilliant time. Yours, Hazel P.S.I think you should have a pen with you next time. Hazel

I saw 'Circle' last night in Bristol and it was just Dressed To Kill with a heavy go at Margaret Thatcher at the beginning. I mean, I like Eddie a lot but I don't want to pay nearly twenty quid just to see old gags. What a load of pants. Very poor show Mr Izzard. Geoff

Hi, my name is Matt Skinner and Last night I went to see Circle at the Bristol colston hall. What everyone is saying is true, it was dress to kill with some minor changes, but what people don't seem to understand that this stuff is f---ING FUNNY, I'm just glad I had the chance to see him live, the entrance and exits were fan-f---ing-tasic. Eddie looked great, and did a great show. I had the privilage of meeting him after the show and he couldn't have been nicer, he signed my dress to kill video and spoke to me, even though I just seemed like a ranting little kid. Thank you very much for making one of my dreams come true, meeting you was one of them. You know what people say, if you meet yur heros you will only end up disapointed, in eddies case that is complete bollocks. Not only did he answer my questions, he actually spoke to me and didn't fob me off with a mumble. thank you for a great show and for making my millenium (Next time I want a picture!!!) (If eddie reads this, I was the kid who said that said you were signing only womens autographs (jokingly!) and I was getting nothing back from the mailing list. I had messy black hair, blue shirt, green jacket.) The kid who wouldn't shut up

CARDIFF BACK TO TOP

Hello Everyone, and Eddie too if you're reading this. Before I start I want to make it clear that I am a massive Eddie fan. But I do need to say this. Last Friday, after waiting, ticket in hand, since May, I saw Eddie do 'Circle' in Cardiff. Myself and many others came out very disappointed. Why? Because we had just paid to see a re-run of the D2K video. The new bits were very, very funny, but they were seriously few and far between. Eddie, I know you have said that the tour will be all-new by the time you get near the end of the tour, (and be sure that I will buy the 'Circle' video), but that doesn't help those of us near the start of the tour. Please decide whether you want to be an actor or the world's greatest comedian. Please know that I feel dirty having sent such an anti-Eddie message. Cheers Tall Andy

GLASGOW BACK TO TOP

Went to see Eddie last night - fantastic ! The show has developed into being *based* on D2K, rather than actually being it. He starts a subject and you think ok, I know what h'es gonna say - and he doesn't he says something completely different ! Much of it was made up of *going off at a tangent* stuff, which was excellent. Anyway, went to the stage door after and a security chap noticed Mr.R ( whose in a wheelchair for those who don't know) and YESSS ! We got invited in the stage door to have a quiet five minutes with Eddie before he went out to sign autographs ! Brilliant or what ! Soooo - he was really really sweet, and looked totally exhausted. But he had a chat and signed our programmes and was generally a lovely guy. And small ! I'm 5"4 and had 3inch heels on and he was only the same height as me ! ( and he had heels on too ! ) So there you go - all in all, a bloody fantastic night ! Nikki.R

hi guys! well, i just got back from seeing eddie in glasgow today, and i have to say it was brilliant. okay, so there was quite a bit of D2K, but hey, there was a LOT of new stuff too. it was hilarious and i was crying with laughter at one point. and there were quite a few hecklers too, and he dealt with them in the way only eddie could. it was fantastic. an added bonus was seeing him after the show too! that was verrrrry cool. he was really nice though, there was a massive long line of people wanting to see him, and he saw every last one. he's so nice, he must have been knackered too. so i now have a signed programme. so, all in all, the show was brilliant (he also made watchdog look stupid, as well as the complainers, which was really great.) well, thats my verdict, but i'm guessing there are a lot of people who dont agree, yes? be cool luv the evil herbivore angel :) angel

i was at the shows on both Monday and Wednesday in Glasgow this week and they were sooooo good. i felt really lucky to be there and a load of my pals were well jealous :o) Eddie is just about the coolest person EVER and i was so chuffed to be in the FRONT row....swoon :o) it would've been nice to see a bit more new stuff, i'm not denying, but he adlibs so much that you can't go to the cathroom for fear of missing anything. feel free to mail me if you like...always happy to talk about Eddie... Ciao for now Jen xxx Jen

Went to see a certain E. Izzard Esq. at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on the abovementioned date - tres. fine show :) Although the heckling was a bit naff (not Mr. Izzard's dealing with the heckling, the heckling itself. No witty comments, no ongoing theme or motif, just yelling. Alas). I would like to declare that 'twas my girlfriend, Fiona Murphy, who did sneeze so spectacularly in the second half - she was *most* mortified that Eddie then proceeded to use that for the next five minutes or so... especially as she was quite ill, poor lass (but doing much better now, with infusions of chicken soup and TLC from me). Oh, no, she's looking over my shoulder, better write something nice... She also liked Eddie's floor length skirt and boots - and would like to know where he got them... Fiona: Sorry we couldn't go backstage and meet you as Steve arranged in London (due to illness, cough cough, thought it best not to give you the flu), but maybe next time?!? All in all, good show, good night out, good t-shirts :) Mike

SHEFFIELD BACK TO TOP

Sheffield, last night...oh how I laughed..........any sour faced people who were there last night ( A COUPLE, SADLY!), please, switch on!!!! Paulie J (was G)

OK, I went to the gig in Sheffield on Saturday (had EXCELLENT seats, 2nd row, bang in the middle) and it was the best thing I've seen in years. Eddie was absolutley amazing, charming, spontaneous and entertaining. BUT NOW.... I'd just like to make you all a little green as I really need to brag! I waited afterwards to see him, and was one of the last people. I thought I would get star-struck like when I met him at Lenny, but I was calm and just said 'Hey, how's it going' and all that. Now, we started chatting and both leant against the wall while he signed my book, and he commented that I have nice legs (how flattering is that?) He said his thighs are a bit chunky, but I interupted him and said, "You have great legs - I saw you in Lenny." He was looking right into my eyes while we talked and smiled lazily when I said that, and said quietly, "Yeah? You think so?" We talked quietly, and he looked at me the whole time, then my boyfriend wanted to take a picture, so Eddie said "oh, photo time" and leaned in close. He signed stuff for the people I was with, but we carried on talking, and I said "can I have a kiss" He said "Yeah" and I went for his cheek, and he moved and I kissed him half on his mouth. I said "Sorry, I'm wearing a sticky lip-gloss" and he touched his mouth where I had kissed him and just grinned! I walked outside in silence, thinking I must be imagining him being so flirty, when my boyfriend said "How much was he flirting with you??!!" My mate, Sarah, agreed and I was just stunned! I'm still a little dazed by the whole experience but that was just the icing on the cake. The show was fab, only about 20% D2K and even when it was, the jokes were updated/ changed/ ad-libbed. FANTASTIC SHOW, EDDIE. AND THANKS FOR THE FLIRTING!! WHAT A BONUS!! Liz (the one who's been around for a while and now has a big head!)

NEWCASTLE BACK TO TOP

I saw Eddie at Newcastle city hall last night and he was really rather f---ing funny as f---. His microphone broke at the beginning and he still managed to make that pretty damned hilarious. What a star. Tom

well here I am as promised, sorry to be a bit late but I was a bit unwell during the night and early morning with migraine.still drugged up and down to an acceptable thump "LOL" here I am! got stuck in the one way system for an hour going and 45 mins leaving so that was cooooool hee hee but arrived and entered theatre with time to spare.btw if anyone dosent want to know about it bleep on now huggggggggsssss the set is open ,curtains drawn back to reveal a giant rose that looks like its been cut and dropped on a surface, its in purple velvet and quite lovely, the rest of the stage is empty but the curtains around it are black velvet, and the rose dominates .lights and smoke are swirling and above the rose hanging from the ceiling a window looking out on the cosmos or space.rock music bangs out to give it a dramatic feel. The lights go down a voice says "are you ready? then ill begin !,theres a countdown as the laser lights swirl meld together forming a screen and then as they drop a blonde head peeping out over the top of the rose as the music builds....he climbs down through the petals and onto the stage.we were then able to see that he was wearing a black three quarter length coat with top bodice in leather or pvc look, a black round knecked top .......BLACK LEATHER SKIRT, BLACK STOCKINGS AND BLACK BOOTS!!!!!THANKYOU LADIES!! IF IT WAS COINCIDENCE GREAAAT but i prefer to think you asked and he answered!!from there he began .Someone shouted "show us your legs " and he did....sighhhh...liz is right they are fab. off we went into a mixture of old and new...the old being presented slightly differently and with additions.greeted with pleasure from the audience and the new FABULOUSSSSS towards the end of ACT one a noise like an electronic musical note set up and wouldnt stop!! he began by commenting and laughing at it and then wove a piece round it there and then....it was brilliant and proved that his work is spontaneaous...... the interval and back he began by finishing off the piece about the noise and then used a lot of new stuff and some old as well I was laughing my head off(good its a mess)then all too soon it was over. The performance was a tour de force, the use of stage ,things happening around him and the material was impressive and NOTHING like looking at a screen image.......he is a talented and charissmatic performer that hits you between the eyes and makes time fly....... stagedoor...well a nightmare scenario sooooo many people with onlY the width of a pavement to work in.but credit to all concerned it worked and all were seen.Because of the sheer numbers he couldnt spend much time with anyone but time he did spend with each .My turn? well I got right next to him and he moved to sign my programme and then turned to sign others..back to me and he took it from me...I said"You were wonderful thankyou very much" as he signed" "Not at all" he replied without looking ,gave me my programme and looked straight at me with a smile which he held! I could have got a kiss or a hugg if Id asked but I was frozen.then I moved away to make room for others.A load of people did get hugggs and kissed him on the cheek and he was smashing about it then he went inside and was gone.COnclusion....great show, genius on stage, lovely man and now I have to add a little more to that list and the reason I was frozen BEAUTIFUL WOMAN!! He really is! Ive always thought of him as feminine and there was the reason right in front of me.I WISH ID ASKED FOR A HUG but its done with now and I cant go back..... MR izzard it was a lovely christmas in newcastle last night once again THANKYOU!! HMUNGUS HUGGGGS AND MMMMMMWAH MOIRAXXX ;] ;] yes i Know its long but I was asked to be so by people sorry to others for taking up so much room mmmmmmmmmwah moiraxxx

OH MY GOD! Saw Eddie last night in Newcastle and I've decided that he is funniest, most intelligent, charming, witty, sexy, good-looking tranvestite comedian to ever be born onto the face of planet earth. I am both obsessed and in love with him. He's brilliant! Although 60/40 the material was old it was still hilarious just to see him doing it live. When he did James Mason the crowd went wild. And the best part was the Darth Vader in the Death Star Canteen bit ("do you know who I am?") oh and the bit when he called Margaret Thatcher a cunt. ALL HAIL EDDIE WHO IS LORD OVER US ALL!!!!!! Lots of Lurve Eddie and everyone else. Clair

Yeah, this is just a little gripe towards his great Eddieness. So here goes... I saw the Circle tour in Newcastle last Tuesday and I noticed a few similarities between that show and the Dress To Kill vid. We all went along expecting a whole barrowload full of new material and jokes n' stuff, but all we got was about 15 minutes of newies and then a load of repeats!!! Don't get me wrong, Eddie is my God. But I wanted, no. I NEEDED new stuff to keep me going. What we got was very cool Deathstar/Vader jokes and Thatcher being called a c**t. and now I'm sad. Eddie, where's all the new funny stuff that gets us rolling in the aisles?? I used to laugh so hard it hurt. I only chuckled along to Circle. bum. Thought I'd share my disappointment. Love and kisses Matt

NOTTINGHAM BACK TO TOP

Saw Eddie at the royal centre in Nottingham on friday 12th nov. He was phemonenal His funniest tour yet - Karl

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Despite using a bit of old material Eddie is still the funniest man alive and he is even more yummy in real life. Didn't like the skirt he chose to do the gig in though, reminded me too much of my old french teacher. Ciao, Chik

Saw u in Nottingham! 12th November. You have made my life complete............ Can't stop thinking about the show! Hope to see you again sometime! Think you are brill! Daph :D

PORTSMOUTH BACK TO TOP

Just to say that I went to Izzard's Pompey show on Mon 15th Nov 99 and thought it was fantastic!! He had me in stitches for the whole show. The set is marvellous - as is izzard's dress sense. I'm tempted to book for the brixton show to see it again. Keep it up Eddie!! p.s. Maggie Thatcher really is a c*nt! haha - If you've seen the show, you'll know what I mean! 'Dymond'

I would just like to say that i attended the Portsmouth Gig on 15th Nov and i though that it was great, eddie was fab and i would really like to see this on video. Is it out yet? Claire

MANCHESTER BACK TO TOP

Darlink Eddie Just wanted to say thankyou for Tuesday night at the Palace in Manchester. Ive waited 4 whole years to see ya live and you were amazing with a capital A! Just one thing - Izzla. Not a good idea to advertise it with a little leaflet on all the seats and then when punters go excitedly to the shop to have them be told theyve got none left and its a collectors item. Gutting! Any chance of putting them back on sale? C'mon you know you want to. Apart from that it was a top gig! The outfit, the set,the chat, the jokes and the pulled muscle. Love you loads, thankyou again and dont forget about the rizla!! Kathryn XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

Brilliant performance. A master at alternative comedy. Bravo! I just wish I could get to meet the man personally. An excellent comeback at the female heckler! Went with my inlaws aged 62 and 63 and we all loved it. Couldn't get enough. And the set......the rose......the leather clothes.......Tres bien. Now go eat beef!! Down with Thatcher! Perfect words c**t for an unperfect woman. Linda

Well if you're out there Eddie - you looked great on Saturday night - and yes, I was very impressed that you could walk down some petals in three inch stiletto heels! Came to see you at Manchester even though I live in Essex! Excellent show! I finally succeeded in getting you a new fan - my boyfriend wouldn't have anything to do with a bloke who wears a dress, but I dragged him a long with me and now he's one of your biggest fans!! Look forward to a new video! Love Sue

Went to see eddie in manchester last night for the first time.He is superdooper.I have been introduced to the world of izzard by someone very special.......cheers. By the way,did anyone else see steve coogan,he was 2 seats infront of me! Oh yeah, and i loved the leather skirt, whoops did i just say that?! Byeeee........love you!!!!!

i have to apologise for being a bit late with my rant as I suppose everyone else has already had their say about Circle. It was fantastic and I'm so glad I went (thursday at Manchester) but he did repeat a lot of stuff from D2K. Plus the fact he started off going on about how Watchdog are poo and should be investigating someones washing machine instead and then continued doing bits of his old tour was annoying. The new bits were classy esp. Darth Vader but I was really looking forward to some new stuff and didn't expect all the Europe stuff again. And an encore entirely of "Le singe est sur la branche" was a bit off. He's great and I would go and see all the rest of the shows on this tour if I could but please agree with me someone. D2K was along time ago so being an intelligent funny man he must be upset at repeating large portions from a show so long ago and the crowds reaction not being as loud as the new stuff. We've all (well 90%) seen D"K so next tour please give us something to get our Deep Heated teeth into. On a slightly different note Cindy from \hollyoaks was there in very bad shoes. Hope your leg gets better Eddie and I am expecting lots of "Leave him alone" type replies so give it to me baby aha aha... Binman

I saw "Circle" on friday and Eddie said about how long skirts can piss you off. You know, because you stand on it once, then you stand on it again, and it comes down a tiny bit each time and before you realize it it's fallen right down. I can sympathise about this because every time I walk up stairs when wearing pyjamas, which is done several times per night, i end up standing on the end of the way too long legs and by the time i reach the top of the stairs, my pants are round my ankles. Another standing on skirt type incident occured several years ago. I was doing a rock and roll desplay at a summer fair, and as i whent to leap frog over somone, i stood on my skirt and landed head first on the tarmac playground. The pain was great (that's as in big, not as in fabulous), but not as great as the embarrasment it caused. But, I suppose, this incident was an 11 year old fallling infront of mums at a summer fair, not an excellent commedian falling infront of a gazillion adoring fans. because lets face it, a woman does it it's embarassing, a man does it and you just have to kill yourself. Well done on the "same old shit" tour, or as it's better known, "circle". We laughed our asses off. Good luck for the future shows. little brox

CAMBRIDGE BACK TO TOP

Well, how cool was the Cambridge show last night? I have never laughed so hard in my life. I actually felt sick afterwards. Similar subjects to D2K, but the material was sooooo different. Darth Vader trying to buy food from the Deathstar Cantine, Queen mum is an ice-cream 'cos she's 99! Margaret Thatchers and Prince Phillip should be strapped togehter 'cos they are c@#*s!!!!!!! The list goes on. Anyway, must go, BYE!!!!!!! James Mason

Mum YESSSS I was at Cambridge last night with my 12yr old son. Everyone had said it was ok to take him and he thought it was brill.. Loved the whale song and my son adored Darth Vader in the canteen. Did you stay behind after to see him or were you told that he'd gone as he had to go to Dublin. We were told this but waited a while anyway when this large man built like a brick wattsitt came out to a car/van type thing and took out a small women type jacket.. So he hadn't gone anywhere. Sure enough out he came He is a really wonderful guy and I am glad I didnt listen to those who doubted him.Hi and take care all you izzardites

PARIS BACK TO TOP

I thought I would write a short(ish!) bit about the show and let the others write their very long, juicy and squeezy bits about Mr I J Izzard. La Boule Noir is in Pigalle which is the red light district of Paris (promising start!) and the venue itself is reminiscent of a village hall. There were 15 rows of 10 plastic seats...and an air of school assembly! The show was called Cirle but the flyers carried the D2K image......blue and swirly. The audience were half French and half English...of the English, half again lived in France so there was a good mix. We only knew this because it was the first thing he asked when he came on stage. There were about 100 people there and it was not sold out. It was entirely in French with material taken from Live at The Ambassadors, D2K and Circle (English version!!!). His French is very good and even his grammar is bordering on perfect even if his tenses were a bit dodgy! Whenever he got a bit stuck he would ask the audience for help so it ended up being quite an interactive evening! He even managed to do an Indian accent while speaking French and do James Mason...playing God...speaking French! It was an amazing evening. He was afforded none of the privileges of being well known and really had to work his hardest. There was no headset and he had to use a normal microphone which would hinder anyone else......but not Mr I!!! He lost the audience a couple of times but realised quickly and brought them back. It is incredible enough that he ad libs the way he does in English but to see him do it in French....it takes your breath away. It is a hackneyed phrase that I am loathed to use but this was Eddie in the 'raw'. He had to win the audience over and he suceeded....even the ones who had no idea who he was. For him it must have been like starting out all over again....small venue with a, largely, untested audience. For me it was an experience I will probably never be able to repeat. This brilliant man stood four feet away from me for and hour and a half with no interval and showed his true genuis, sometimes, fear and the undeniable charisma that makes him a star. MIMI (very embarrased because that wasn't short at all!)

Hiya, I've just seen Mimi's post about the show which was ten times better that what I could have written but after the show Mimi buggered off!!! Whilst Bings and I stood by the stage door, Mimi went off for a drink. (She doesn't lust after his body like most of us!). Anyway, as it turned out there were only 5 of us waiting to see him and so we were allowed back inside the venue to meet him. He came sauntering up the aisle to talk to us and we were there for about 20 minutes chatting to him and having our piccies taken. In true Mrs Badcrumble style, I flung my arms around him and had a HUGE hug and kissed him in a very sexual way. It was nearly with tongues!!! Wow! It was soooo cool. Anyway, I think Bings and Mimi will agree with me when I say it was a fantastic evening and well worth the trip to Paris. Hugs to all, Mrs Badcrumble, still feeling slightly lightheaded

Whoops! I was so keen to tell everyone that I've snogged the Izzard, I didn't tell you what we chatted about!!!! Well, you lot in the US will be pleased to hear that Eddie hopes to go over there around March next year. He's then planning on touring Australia. He was wearing leather trousers after the show (as was I) and he put his arm around me, his leg next to mine and said " Oooh, we're both wearing leather, we should start a leather trousers club" (Or something like that, I was too stunned by the fact that he had noticed what I was wearing and the fact that he was touching my leg to listen to him as well!!!). There was an American guy there that had been dumped by his French girlfriend a couple of weeks ago and wanted Eddie to say something to her at the next show. Eddie obviously said no. Not in a nasty way, he explained that doing his routine in French was hard enough! I felt a bit sorry for the guy, he'd waited since 7.00pm through to 11.00pm to speak to him, but to be honest, Eddie's a comedian not a DJ and none of us expected him to say yes. I asked him about the Christening and he said that "it's probably more her thing than mine" meaning his step-mother. Ahh well, it wasn't a definite "no", was it!! So...yeah, that's about it. HUGS Mrs Badcrumble

What else can I say that Mrs. B and Mimi haven't already said? He was tres fantastique during and after the show. For anyone who has the chance to see Eddie in Paris, I would strongly recommend it. I think there will be very few opportunities to see him in such an 'intimate' setting and really having to work so hard to win the audience's love and respect. He did it quite well, though. My French friends spent all day Sunday saying 'Ciao' while pretending to be on a scooter. The show was fantastic, the company was wonderful and, of course, Eddie was informidable (sp?). A very special evening indeed. Thanks to all! Bings

(CLICK HERE FOR THOMAS' SCAN OF THE FRENCH TOUR POSTER - thanks Thomas!) The show is "CIRCLE", and is said in French. (a rather good French) The place is "La boule noire", a very small theatre but a very nice one. As Eddie said : "This is like my room ! ... I've a fucking big room !" Of course he said that in French : "Ici c'est un peu comme ma chambre... j'ai une fucking big chambre !" Tonight (Saturday, 11) is the last performance, and of course I'll be there !. I saw him the 2nd and the 9th. The first time, the theatre was half-empty, but the second one it was nearly sold out... Between the two shows, Eddie appeared in a very popular French show called "Nulle par ailleurs" (Canal +) (I have the tape). This is the reason. Ê All the show is performed in French, so sometimes he's looking for words... so he simply asks the audience ! Here I'm proud to say that I've learned him to say "fuck off !" in French : "va te faire foutre !", and also "un pied de micro", "pÆcher", andÊfew others... Sometimes there's no answer from the audience so Eddie says "OK, don't talk to him ! He's dressed like a girl...". His favourite French words are "fantastique", "bonsoir", "trou du cul", and "merde". It's clear. At the beginning of the show, Eddie explains to us, French audience, that we don't have to wait for punchlines, because there aren't any ! In fact, in France we just don't have anyone like Eddie : each comedian performs sketches with black-on-stage between them. In CIRCLE (for France I mean) the main topics are : him being a "travesti", and the difference between him and drag-queens, the sentences that he learned in French when he was a kid : "Le chat est sur la chaise", "Le singe est sur la branche" : useless !, Elisabeth 2, the English and Europe, the creation of the world, the guiness book of records... and so on... It was a real pleasure talking with him after the show (dec. 2nd) : he was really worried about what makes a French audience laugh... I think the answers were good because the week after the show was not completely the same, some thing were shorter, some longer, but what is sure is that the laughs were higher ! (He's so crazy when being "Captain acne" !) I think we can say he marked one big point in his conquest of France. This was his third show in France. He himself said (to me !!!) that the two first were "merde"... but he's rather pleased with this one. And, scoop, perhaps he'll be back in Paris in February ! I'll be there again ! I hope it will be in a bigger theatre ! Ê Until then, bientot ! Ê Thomas.

Hey Everyone!!! This is just a quick message to say that Eddie's gig on 12/12/99 was FANTASTIC!!!!! I went to Brixton Acadamy and it was amazing...i laughed soooo much i cried!!!! And just to top it off i got to kiss the main man himself at the end...yep i also got his autograph!!! I was sooo suprised! Some of you are probably thinking "so....your point is???" But this was the first gig i have been to...ROLL ON THE NEXT 1!! Thanx Eddie!!! Your the greatest! Loadza luv to you all *Stacey* P.s If eddie reads this......i'm the tall one with long brown hair...ok your not gonna rememeber me, but your show was sooooo funny. 100/10!!!! Brilliant, thanx 4 the autograph!! c ya,take care! x x x x x x

Saw Circle at the Brixton Academy yesterday, the 14th. Its still mainly based around D2K material, but heads off on some brilliant new tangents along the way. Darth Vadar in the Death Star canteen was an Izzard classic. One of the smarmy, self-righteous gits from Watchdog was loitering outside after the show, getting peoples opinions on the whole D2K rip-off malarkey. A comedian reusing material in a 2hr plus show, oh what a heinous crime!! Might have to break the habit of lifetime now and watch the damn programme, just to see what sort of person it is that goes to an Eddie Izzard gig then goes home to pen an angry missive to Anne Robinson. Simon.

What can I say? Brixton, 16th December 1999. BLOODY BRILLIANT!!! The new material was excellent, the old material still as funny as ever, and the adlibs were pure genius. Especially the one about the cat. (If you were there, you'll know the one I mean!) It had me rolling in my seat, tears in my eyes! Got the chance to meet Eddie afterwards - got another autograph and another photo - it means a lot to us Eddie, thanks for doing it! And a little hello to the other izzardites I bumped into at the Stage door!! Angie B

and into 2000.............

NEW YORK BACK TO TOP

6th April 2000: Eddie was his wonderful, hyper self. Although he was suffering from the flu, he gave a great performance. I laughed so hard, my sides hurt the next day. He looked wonderful. The audience that night, 4/6/00,was a little slow, but I laughed so loud, I made a fool of myself. Go see Eddie, you will not be disappointed. Tanya

LOS ANGELES BACK TO TOP

17th June 2000: This was the only night I could get 5 seats together. Although the audience was typically LA (at one point, Eddie asked the audience who 'LA' hated & the audience all sat breathless waiting for the audience to respond), the show was great. He was great. He, of course, looked fabulous in a chiffon & lame' shirt & boot-pants. Don't ask, you had to be there. His timing & patience was miraculous. His make-up was divine. What more could a girl ask for? T. in Hollyweird
